Eventbrite partners with the inaugural U.S. Independent Venue Week

Jul. 09, 2018

Having post fourth of July blues? Fear not! We’re excited to announce a different celebration of independence – the debut of the U.S. edition of Independent Venue Week (IVW), a celebration of independent music venues across the country running July 9-15, 2018. In addition to being its first US debut, this year marks a special one for IVW because Eventbrite, ticketing partner to 2,000 of the top independent promoters, venues and festivals across North America, is the exclusive founding ticketing partner for IVW in the US.

Independent Venue Week is a seven-day acknowledgement of independent venues and their respective staffs that bring the best in live talent to audiences year-round. The week launched in the U.K. in 2014 and recently held its biggest run of shows to date at 172 U.K. venues earlier this year for its fifth edition. Songtrust, a music publishing and royalty collection services platform, is also an official partner of IVW’s U.S. launch.

Rev. Moose, managing partner of Independent Venue Week, told Music Week, “Independent venues are the backbone of the American live music scene. They’re where neighborhoods go to support new artists, that eventually turn into the hometown heroes in the national spotlight. For years we have seen the U.K. grow IVW from the seed of an idea into the monumental celebration it is now of these spaces. We are excited to bring that same spotlight to the small business owners that put on shows in the world’s most competitive music market.”

IVW’s US edition will also feature Chuck D, co-founder of Public Enemy and member of Prophets of Rage, as its honorary artist ambassador, a natural fit given his history of performing in independent venues throughout his career. Chuck D told Music Week, “I’ve spent a lot of time in independent venues around the world, onstage and as the fan in the crowd. No matter if you’re a superstar or underground act, these places bring music to the people outside of the corporate lines. Let’s celebrate them, not just this week but every day.”

We’re so excited to be a partner of IVW this year and are hoping this initiative will continue to shed light on the importance and growth of independent music venues across the globe. Come celebrate with us and check out the list of upcoming shows at some of our partner venues below! You can also check out the full list of IVW participating venues here.
