Now playing: Dwight Twilley Band – Twilley Don’t Mind and Richard & Linda Thompson – I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight.
Best concert experience: Mensclub at the Hotel Utah at the end of the last century. I had no socks after the show, as they had been fully rocked off.
Next upcoming concert: Stephin Merritt at The Independent with Carletta Sue Kay. Carletta is San Francisco’s own American treasure.
Most recent album purchase: Translator – Heartbeats and Triggers ($2.99 at Amoeba, I couldn’t resist)
Favorite lyrics: “Believe me when I tell you, I will try to understand, believe me when I tell you, I could never kill a man” – Gene Clark
Now playing: New[ish] stuff: Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterly, Grimes – Realiti, FKA Twigs – Glass & Patron, Sol Invictus – Faith No More, Jamie XX – In-Colour, Lightning Bolt – Fantasy Empire, Young Fathers – White Men Are Black Men Too, GOD – My Pal
Constantly on rotation: Joy Division, PJ Harvey, Gossip, Glass Candy [+ all of Johnny Jewels projects], Foals, John Maus, Patti Smith, Kate Bush, Kopecky, Savages, Royal Headache, Salt-N-Pepa, Sleater Kinney, Ween, Teeth & Tongue, B-52s, Desert Sessions, and on and on it goes.
Best concert experience: Hmmmm – how can one choose from a lifetime of shows?
At The Drive-In @ The HiFi, Melbourne; Death Grips @ Slim’s, SF; Grinderman @ ATP Melbourne [RIP!], Shellac @ ATP Camber Sands [RIP!], Pearl Jam @ Melbourne Tennis Centre [’95 baby!], PJ Harvey & John Parish @ Stubb’s, Austin; The XX @ The Corner Hotel, Melbourne; every Meredith Music Festival I’ve ever been to; Patti Smith @ Slim’s earlier this year, Madonna @ The MCG, The Girlie Show tour [I went with my mum and sister, and it was one of my first shows ever. Jenny Shimizu came down a ridiculously high stripper pole like a slithering enchantress. Was mesmerizing.] But seriously, this is too hard a question given all of the ‘bests’ to choose from.
Next upcoming show: Saw Faith No More in PDX & SF this April, hoping to see Lightning Bolt @ The Chapel, Young Fathers @ The Indy, and Shellac @ The New Parish. Also rooting for a Hottub reunion show. Can someone make that happen?
Most recent album purchase: Schoolboy Q – Oxymoron and Death Grips – Powers that B .
Favorite lyrics: Most of my favorite lyrics aren’t appropriate for this post, so…
Now playing: A couple of days ago my son and I rocked out to Daft Punk and New Order, loud enough to irritate my wife.
Best concert experience: U2’s Zoo TV outdoor tour at the Oakland Coliseum in 1992
Next upcoming concert: U2 at SAP Center in San Jose, CA
Most recent album purchase: London Grammar
Random fact: My team won the San Francisco Chinese New Year Treasure Hunt (Regular Division) in 2014.
Now playing: Tobias Jesso Jr. – Goon, Ibeyi – Ibeyi , Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly, George Ezra – Wanted on Voyage, Sturgill Simpson – Metamodern Sounds in Country Music
Best concert experience: 2015 (so far): Ibeyi @ The Independent. All time: toss up between Elton John & Billy Joel Face to Face tour 2001 & the first time I ever saw Ryan Adams (and died) @ Bridge School Benefit 2002
Next upcoming concert: Sasquatch Festival
Most recent album purchase: The Sex Pistols – Nevermind the Bullocks (original vinyl pressing)

Now playing: Downtown Boys – Monstro
Best concert experience: Punch @ 1-2-3-4-Go! Records
Next upcoming concert: Upset + Colleen Green @ Rickshaw Stop
Most recent album purchase: Try The Pie – Domestication
Random fact: I love Harry Potter!
Now playing: Twin Steps – Pinky Promise, Boysage – Skyrim, but also, Gillette – Short Dick Man
Best concert experience: Oh man, of Montreal puts on the most insane magical visual experiences ever – giant puppets, sword fights, and Poodle headed people shimmying in patriotic boob suits. Really great. R. Stevie Moore is also an insane person in pajama pants and if you haven’t seen him live, then you ain’t livin’.
Next upcoming concert: Whatever colors of the wind!! Yasiin Bey [FKA Mos freaking Def] @ 1015 Folsom!! Also, Fat White Family @ The Chapel
Most recent album purchase: Record Store Day Gems: Thee Oh Sees – Help, Elvis Costello – My Aim Is True, The Cramps – Stay Sick!. I personally didn’t purchase this last one, but great gift. Missing Persons – Spring Session M.
Random fact: My very first concert was N’Sync. My second, Weird Al Yankovic.
