Department: Festival Success
Now playing: The song playing right now is Random by G-Eazy.
Best concert experience: Rolling Stones, San Diego, May 2015. Incredible. An absolutely HUGE Bucket List item crossed off for sure.
Next upcoming concert in June or beyond: Whoever is playing in my local dive bars when I happen to walk in…oh, and maybe Jason Aldean in Mountain View.
Most recent album purchase: Better Nature by Silversun Pickups. I had never listened to them before, but Google Play often has deals on random albums and so I’ll try to grab something new when I can – and this was something new!
Random fact: Even though i’m right-handed, I can only play the drums left-handed.
Now playing: dvsn
Best concert experience: In 1998, I saw Smashing Pumpkins with my pops in Philly – it was my first real concert. During his solo in “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” James Iha crushed a stray beach ball into the crowd with his guitar. It was incredible.
Next upcoming concert in June or beyond: DJ Mustard, dvsn, BJ The Chicago Kid, Outside Lands
Most recent album purchase: The Wilderness by Explosions in the Sky
Favorite Lyrics: It’s a tie between “talking shit about a pretty sunset” by Modest Mouse and “if I’m fake I ain’t notice cause my money ain’t” by Nicki Minaj on Kanye’s “Monster.”
Department: Venue Success
Now playing: Dirty Laundry by Don Henley as I sit on hold on the phone.
Best concert experience: Of all time? Way too many to think of, but best of 2016 so far was easily 3 Night’s of Ween in Broomfield, CO. Their first shows after a 5 year hiatus. It was a soul lifting experience similar to what I imagine people feel when they go to those giant mega church evangelists, but better and more rock and roll.
Next upcoming concert in June or beyond: 6/16 Valient Thorr at Complex, 6/18 Middleditch and Schwartz at Largo, 6/26 Neil Hamburger at Satellite, but perhaps the show I’m most pumped about (and there are a lot) is Ween at The Bill Graham Auditorium up in SF on Rocktober 14th and 15th.
Most recent album purchase: Space Vacation by Peelander Z
Favorite lyric: God made man
But he used a monkey to do it
Apes in the plan
We’re all here to prove it
I can walk like an ape
Talk like an ape
Do what a monkey do
God made man
But a monkey supplied the glue
Now playing: Sissy That Walk by RuPaul
Best concert experience: I lost my wedding ring in the pit at a Rancid show, and a huge group stopped to help me look for it. Luckily my ring was found on the opposite side of the pit. Kids were still coming up to me after the show to see if I found it. I was so overwhelmed by their kindness. By the way, please don’t tell my wife; she’ll kill me.
Next upcoming concert in June or beyond: Janelle Monáe and Alabama Shakes
Most recent album purchase: This Means War by Old Firm Casuals
Random fact: Scotland’s national animal is the unicorn. As it should be.
