SXSW Landing

From new artists discovered and partnerships formed to Lone Star‘s consumed and tears shed, this year’s SXSW Music conference was a roller coaster of emotions. To our party partners in crime at The Billions Corporation, ScoreMore Shows, The Echo / Echoplex, Collective Concerts, and Banjos to Beats, we raise a glass to you! And to our knowledgeable comrades at Next Big Sound, Tumblr, and Bandsintown, we can’t wait to share a panel riser with you again. Cheers to you all! Our return to motherland of BBQ and queso can’t come soon enough.

On a more serious note, last week’s horrific car crash reminded us how precious and fragile life is. May those who lost their lives rest in peace, and may those injured and affected return to normalcy soon.

Now to recap our favorite + funniest moments of SXSW 2014!

MUSIC & MEMORIES

“Steve Aoki throwing multiple FULL SIZED cakes at the crowd.  I also threw my shoes in the trash. I walked so much, I wore them out!”
Chip Thomas, Director of Sales / Cake Boss
Favorite bands: Lizzo, Charli XCX

“My brain exploded for Damon Albarn & Friends at Fader Fort when they closed their set with Gorillaz’ ‘Clint Eastwood.’ Damon brought Dan the Automator and Del the Funky Homosapien onstage and said it was the ‘first time the track had been performed in its natural state.’ It was pretty epic to see Damon and Del bury the hatchet on stage and Snoop Dogg improvise the final verse. A truly historical moment, and I’m still amazed I got to experience it.”
Dakin Hardwick, Client Services Representative / Funky Homo sapien
Favorite SXSW bands:  Perfect Pussy, Suzanne Vega, Damon Albarn, Coachwhips

“Heckling Har Mar Superstar, Bob Mould performing his entire new record for the first time, Foxboro Hot Tubs rocking harder than Green Day, and my beard looking great in photos with famous people.”
– Kevin Curley, Director of Sales / Professional Beard
Favorite Bands: Bob Mould, Big Freedia

“Coldplay was magical, and going to church with Sam Smith and Hozier at St. David’s Episcopal was my personal highlight… However, getting sick from two food trucks was definitely NOT magical!”
Acacia, Product Marketing Manager / Magician
Favorite SXSW bands: Together PANGEA, The Crookes, Sam Smith, Hozier, Chet Faker, Jungle

“The iTunes Festival video screens for Soundgarden at ACL Live were pretty rad, and my favorite event was the Stone’s Throw Documentary and after-show with Peanut Butter Wolf, Madlib, and guests. Very inspiring.”
Ellis Ranko, Director of Electronic Music Sales / Late Night Adventurer
Favorite SXSW bands: Peanut Butter Wolf, Madlib

“Har Mar Superstar telling the crowd, ‘We’re Har Mar Superstar… you’re welcome!’ Thankfully, he hadn’t stripped down to his tighty-whities. I think all my other favorite story involved Ellis Ranko and a bathtub.”
Mike Moore, Director of Sales / Superstar
Favorite bands: Har Mar Superstar, The Districts, Tokyo Police Club

“If I could have seen Har Mar Superstar a 4th time, I would have… and I’m officially banned from Red 7 for all eternity. I have Chance the Rapper and Dave Lock to thank for that!”

“After SXSW, it’s settled that Perfect Pussy, Diarrhea Planet, Cerebral Ballzy should go on tour together.”
