Mingle with music visionaries at Relix Magazine’s first ever conference

After more than 40 years of producing one of the country’s leading music publications, Relix Magazine is now gearing up for its first live music conference, May 10 at Brooklyn Bowl in New York. Relix is published by Dayglo Ventures, the longstanding Ticketfly partner led by Peter Shapiro, that operates Brooklyn Bowl, Capitol Theatre, and other impressive live event spaces.

“It’s an extension of the magazine,” says Relix’s Bradley Tucker. “In the print magazine and online, we started covering industry people one by one. The idea was to profile everyone else in the music industry who contributed to the live show, since Relix for so long was covering just the music.”

Now all those people are coming together under in one room to share insights on the business. The single day event will feature panels and discussions on organizing festivals, publicity and management, technology, ticketing and more. Speakers include Relix co-Editors-in-Chief Dean Budnick and Mike Greenhaus, Bowery Presents co-founder John Moore and Newport Folk Festivals Executive Producer Jay Sweet, among others. The day will be capped by a keynote conversation between Dayglo Ventures founder Peter Shapiro and Live Nation’s New York Music Chairman Ron Delsener; Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke will moderate.

What makes the conference stand out is its intimacy, Tucker says, making it easier to speak with presenters. “We anticipate it being a great networking event for people at all different points in their career,” Tucker says. “We have a lot of people from different parts of the business, from agents to managers to publicists to writers to promoters to venue operators.”

Though he’s producer, Tucker himself hopes to pick up a thing or two.

“I’m there producing the event but I’m also there to learn from these music industry people just as much as anyone attending,” Tucker says. “It’s people who have been in the industry a long time. I’m excited to see all these people who I have a ton of respect for, see how they interact with each other, learn… I’m interested in all of it, from talent buying to management to how technology is being incorporated into live events.”
