thanksgiving-2015-intro-hero-image

Bring on the turkey, cranberry sauce and awkward dinner conversations—Thanksgiving is here. While we’re all about family here at the ‘fly, we know that the house can get a little cramped around this time (and we know how much of a drag it is to explain why you’re single at 30 a dozen times). Need a break from Cousin Eddie? We’ve got your back.

This holiday, be thankful for these awesome live shows taking place throughout the country during Thanksgiving weekend.

Ticketfly Acquires WillCall to Reimagine Live Events

Screenshot_8_20_14_7_39_PM

This is an exciting day for Ticketfly. I am very happy to announce that we have acquired WillCall, an amazing concert discovery, ticketing, and in-venue commerce app for iOS and Android.

We’ve been friends and business partners with the WillCall folks for some time now, and are big fans of what they do. The WillCall app offers one of the best event discovery and commerce experiences we’ve come across, allowing fans to purchase and share tickets with just a few taps on a mobile phone. WillCall is best known for its curated list of concerts in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. Their latest innovation leverages beacon technology to let fans open bar tabs on their phones with a single swipe as they enter the venue, and close out at the end of the night by simply walking out the door. Think Uber for drink ordering.

Ticketfly and WillCall have a shared passion for improving the event-going experience for fans. But fans won’t be the only ones to benefit from Ticketfly and WillCall joining forces. WillCall has some great tools for venues and event promoters as well, including a simple and intuitive iPad-based point of sale system, which integrates seamlessly with its bar tab functionality. Over time the WillCall POS will integrate tightly with the Ticketfly platform. We believe that the melding of concessions and ticketing data is crucial to helping promoters better understand their customers and reward loyalty.

The way people experience live events in the future will be very different than in the past. The phone will play a big part in that. Ticketfly has been a leader in mobile event discovery and ticketing for years. Nearly half of the traffic to Ticketfly.com and the 500 mobile-optimized websites we power on behalf of our partners originates from mobile devices. WillCall will be yet another tool in our mobile arsenal.

The combination of WillCall’s innovative mobile technology and Ticketfly’s broad network of leading independent venues, promoters and festivals will be powerful, and one that will accelerate innovation for fans and promoters alike. This partnership will lay the foundation for a frictionless show-going experience, and help us to continue to transform the way people experience live events.

Ticketfly Canada GM Bruce Morrison Honored in Canadian Ticketing Community

Bruce_Morrison

Our very own GM of Ticketfly Canada, Bruce Morrison, was recently granted the Richard Carter Lifetime Achievement award at the Ontario Professional Ticketing Association’s (OPTA) annual meeting.

OPTA is an organization of around ~120 members of Bruce’s long-time peers and colleagues in the Canadian ticketing community. Prior to joining Ticketfly, Bruce ran ticket sales at the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts in Toronto. Bruce also worked as an executive at Ticketmaster Canada for 13 years and served as director of ticketing for Concert Productions International, working with artists like the Rolling Stones, The Who, Barbra Streisand, and Genesis.

Congratulations, Bruce! We’re so happy to have you on the team.

Ticketfly Tours: The War on Drugs, Chromeo, and YelaWolf

War-on-Drugs

Spring is in full-bloom, and festival season is officially upon us. The best concerts are popping up all over the country, so it was tough to pick only three artists for this month’s Ticketfly Tours. We honed it down the The War on Drugs, Chromeo, and Yelawolf. Whether you’re into indie-rock, funk, or hip hop, we’ve got a show near you:

THE WAR ON DRUGS

Philadelphia indie-rock band, The War on Drugs, is making major waves with their most recent release Lost in the Dream (released March 2014 on Secretly Canadian) and two hour live sets this tour. With Don Henley-esque vocals and hints of Dylan, Petty, and Springsteen, The War on Drugs’ new, energetic sound earned them an 8.8 Pitchfork review, and they’ve already hit the #26 spot on the Billboard 200 charts.

4.7: Crescent Ballroom – Phoenix, AZ
4.8: Club Congress – Tucson, AZ
4.10: Mojo’s – Columbia, MO

CHANCE THE RAPPER

Chance the Rapper is an independent 19-year-old rapper from Chicago. So far, he’s released two (completely free on Datpiff) mixtapes, Acid Rap and 10 Day, and fans are already anticipating more work out of this up and comer. He’s been in the studio with Twista, Childish Gambino, Action Bronson, Ab-Soul, and many of rap’s greats, so Mr. Bennett is frankly becoming hard to ignore.
