Everyone knows the Village Voice name. It’s been synonymous with events and culture since it started as a free weekly paper in New York City’s Greenwich Village in 1955, and it is now the country’s oldest “alt-weekly.” Over time that free paper has grown into a successful media and publishing empire, now owning many of the largest alt-weeklies in the U.S., including SF Weekly, LA Weekly and Houston Press. But that’s not all! Village Voice Media also curates and produces a wide range of cultural events in some of the largest metro areas in the U.S., including concerts and a range of festivals, including food, art and beer fests. Who doesn’t love beer and art?!
Now attending those events just got a little easier.
VVM announced today that it is partnering with Ticketfly to be its exclusive ticketing provider nationwide. Whether it’s a music showcase in New York City, a dining event in Los Angeles, or a beer festival in Ft. Lauderdale, Ticketfly will streamline the process by allowing users to buy tickets from wherever they are—from their phone, from their desktop, from their mobile device, even entirely through Facebook.
“We’re extremely excited about our partnership with Ticketfly,” said VVM president and chief operating officer Scott Tobias. “Our mission is to give our readers and customers a 360-degree experience. Readers can already get great reviews, concert updates, restaurant reviews and critics’ picks; now they can complete those experiences with a ticket purchase on our websites and through our mobile platforms.”
“We’re pleased to partner with the Village Voice to power their social ticketing needs,” said Dan Teree, founder, president and COO of Ticketfly. “Our social and mobile ticketing platform enables Village Voice to promote events and sell tickets in new and powerful ways. And, our Facebook ticketing application will make it easier for fans to buy tickets and share their excitement for events.”
VVM will continue to roll out new local events in coming months, as well as continuing its support for its many existing initiatives: the popular Artopia series, which celebrates the best fashion, design, performing arts and visual media in its communities; music showcases in Denver, Houston and St. Louis; the 4 Knots Music Festival in New York City; and curated food events like Choice Eats in New York and Iron Fork in St Louis, Miami, Dallas and Minneapolis.
Village Voice Media is the nation’s leading alternative media company, providing cutting-edge coverage of news, food, music, arts and events with daily websites, weekly print newspapers, and a variety of mobile apps in thirteen major American markets.
Be sure to check out some of these events and be on the look out for many more Village Voice productions on Ticketfly, in a city near you. Welcome to the family, VVM!
