Chattanooga — home to one of America’s most unique and thriving live music scenes. Known as the “Scenic City” on the Tennessee River that inspired Glenn Miller’s famous train song, Chattanooga still carries the diverse sounds of jazz, bluegrass, folk, rock and more in its culture. Which is exactly why music venue The Signal is opening its doors to Chattanooga on February 16, 2018.
Part of the Marathon Music Works family (located in Nashville) and the fourth venue to open under its management, the industrial-chic warehouse will host 1,300 and feature unique designs like multi story seating and a VIP balcony. The Signal will host all genres of music and to kick off the grand opening, internationally touring artists like St. Vincent, Lucero, and Gramatik are making stops at The Signal on upcoming tours.
Marathon Music Works and Ticketfly have been partners since 2011, bringing independent live music to cities like Nashville and Kansas City with venues Exit/In and The Truman. “I initially fell in love with Chattanooga soon after moving to Tennessee full-time in the late 90’s. About 10 years later, I fell in love with doing shows in Chattanooga at Rhythm & Brews. I’m humbled and excited to become further vested in Chattanooga’s live music community with the opening of The Signal,” said Chris Cobb, co-founder and co-owner of JR Facility Management.
If you’re wondering how the venue got its name, you’ll have to consider live music culture. “Grassroots music venues are such an integral part of a city’s live music ecosystem that we wanted to give Chattanooga’s live music community an opportunity to be involved in this process. So, we ran a contest to name the venue. We took submissions, narrowed to the top 3, and then put it to a vote!” said Cobb.
The music is just the start. The Signal will sit on the Southside of Chattanooga, an area booming with creative entrepreneurial business and living. As Cobb describes, it’s an unmatched, palatable energy that’s perfect for music lovers.
