Rock Jockeys: Goo Goo Dolls Headline the Night Before Preakness Stakes

Mar. 15, 2013

Do you remember the 1998 Nicholas Cage/Meg Ryan film “City of Angels“? Or do you only remember it for featuring the Goo Goo Dolls’ epic track “Iris,” in which lead singer John Rzeznik memorably shouts: “When everything’s made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am.” The song is proof that in the 90s, you didn’t have to be R.E.M. (“Losing My Religion“) to play the mandolin on a hit record, and it’s part of a deep catalogue that has helped the Buffalo, NY alternative rock band sell over 10 million albums worldwide.

Goo Goo fans on the East Coast, rejoice, especially if you like horse racing! Ticketfly’s partner the Maryland Jockey Club has announced that the Goo Goo Dolls (touring in support of upcoming album Magnetic) will headline a concert on Friday, May 17 on the Infield of the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, the night before the running of the Preakness Stakes (one leg of thoroughbred racing’s “Triple Crown”).
As a special offer for friends of Ticketfly, the Jockey Club is making discount tickets ($20, down from $25) available with promo code PREAKNESSEVE until 10am ET tomorrow only. Buy your tickets now!

You’re also benefiting a great cause by turning out for a night of music and fun. The concert, the first-ever Preakness Eve show featuring a national headlining artist, is part of Pimlico’s partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, an event that launched in 2010 to raise funds and aid awareness and research for breast cancer.
