It’s almost here! We’re excited to announce the upcoming Eight Year Anniversary Week of U Street Music Hall, which will kick off March 11, 2018 and feature 10 shows across Washington, DC until March 18. The celebration truly highlights how rapidly the U Street Music Hall brand has grown over the last eight years — and we’re so proud to be a partner.

Anniversary Week will happen at three venues across the city, including U Street Music Hall, Ten Tigers Parlour, and Backbar (which sits underneath 9:30 Club). U Street Music Hall will feature artists from electronic and hip-hop to homegrown genres like moombahton and go-go, a genre of historical influence in DC. Quick history lesson: the U Street Corridor used to be a thriving home for Washington DC’s original genre of go-go music and functioned as a cultural hub for black Americans in the earlier part of the 20th century. With time, go-go’s presence on U Street has waned. But U Street Music Hall is committed to giving the go-go scene a home on U Street once again, in an effort to preserve its history.

Trouble Funk, one of DC’s greatest go-go and funk bands that counts Dave Grohl among their many disciples, will kick off Anniversary Week on Sunday, March 11. The show is part of U Street Music Hall’s new series “Go-Go Returns to U Street,” a regular show series that hosts the best go-go bands in DC along with some of DC’s brightest DJs, producers, and MCs as opening support.

“When U Street Music Hall opened in 2010, we had a simple goal of presenting the best dance music in the world,” said Will Eastman, founder, owner/operator, and U Street Music Hall talent buyer. “Since then, we’ve hosted some of the biggest and most forward-thinking artists in music. ODESZA, Disclosure, Nina Kraviz, and more have made their D.C. debuts at the club, and we’ve created an open and inclusive home for performers and our fans. The U Hall brand has even expanded outside of our venue in the heart of the U Street Corridor.”

On March 14, the celebration continues with Oddisee, who will play U Street Music Hall on the second night. And if that’s not enough to quench your dance thirst, acts like Chicago-based future house trio Autograf and Parisian producer Breakbot will follow throughout the week. Even more exciting? The party extends beyond U Street Music Hall. On March 16, Sublevel head and house great Doc Martin will play Ten Tigers Parlour as part of U Street Music Hall’s curated series and acts like Sami%SuYung and DMV Deep will spin at microclub Backbar. New Zealand drum and bass duo The Upbeats will also play at Ten Tigers Parlour the following night. To conclude Anniversary Week, Nightmares on Wax will perform a live set on March 18.

Since its opening, U Street Music Hall has prided itself on being a pillar of the D.C. music community, presenting acclaimed artists on the vanguard of new sounds while also being a home for legendary performers in an open and inclusive environment. Over the years, the venue has earned a reputation as one of the best dance and electronic music venues in the world, as well as a place where the best of all genres thrive.

“Our longtime partnership with Ticketfly has provided us even more opportunities to connect with music-lovers both locally and nationally, from cutting-edge marketing and analytics tools to streamlined ticketing services,” said Eastman. “We look forward to growing with Ticketfly and Eventbrite as U Street Music Hall enters its eighth year.”
